Campus Ministry
The Commonwealth is a spiritual home for undergraduate and graduate students in Pittsburgh. There are a lot of vibrant Christian campus ministries in the area. So what are some things that are distinctive about this one?
The Commonwealth is a progressive church. We take the Bible too seriously to always take it literally. We celebrate LGBTQIA+ people and their spiritual gifts. And we believe Jesus cared about this life at least as much as the next life, and so we work together for social justice.
Many of us have years of experience in deconstructing and reconstructing our Christian beliefs and practice, so we feel really comfortable holding space for questions and doubts.
And finally, because we are a hybrid church that meets onsite and online, you can stay connected to The Commonwealth even when you're home on break and even after you finish your degree! We are an inter-generational community you can call your spiritual home for years to come.
Pastors Mike and Erin are active members of the chaplains groups at Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Pittsburgh. They are also founding members of the Queer Interfaith Alliance, a group of LGBTQIA+ affirming campus ministries in Oakland.
Mike and Erin hold campus "office hours" at CMU on Wednesdays and at Pitt on Fridays. Check our Instagram stories for times and locations if you want to drop by.
